Download Idle Reduction Guide

The U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Alternative Fuels and Advanced Vehicles Data Center Idle Reduction page contains multiple links to available technologies from onboard auxiliary power units to truck stop electrification and more. An additional wealth of information can be found on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus USA and on EPA’s Clean Diesel Campaign site under Technologies and Resources.

Additionally, from 2006 - 2009, the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments’ Clean Cities program, Choctaw-Nicoma Park Public Schools in Central Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Dept. of Environmental Quality piloted a fuel- and emissions-saving idle reduction demonstration project using a variety of Choctaw-Nicoma Park school buses and bus routes. The published results of that report are featured on the AFDC’s Idle Reductions Publications page and the publication, School Bus Idling Reduction: Project Report and Implementation Guide for Oklahoma School Districts, is available for download (PDF 1.26 MB) from the AFDC.

School bus transportation directors and interested fleets can contact the Central Oklahoma Clean Cities office at (405) 234-2264, or email us at info@okcleancities.org to request a hard copy of the publication.
