Dozens of Oklahoma City-area electric vehicle drivers and enthusiasts gathered in the shadow of the Wheeler District Ferris Wheel to celebrate the growth of electric vehicles travelling on Oklahoma’s roadways and to highlight the fun, clean-air benefits, and cost-savings of electric cars. The event is part of the fifth annual National Drive Electric Week and the second event held in Oklahoma City.

Six different EV models were on display including a Tesla Model S, Chevy Volts, Nissan Leafs, and even an electric recumbent bicycle. EV drivers attending the event reported over 170,000 electric miles driven.

Oklahoma City’s event is one of more than 100 across the country where electric vehicle owners and their neighbors will hold EV events.

“Plug-in electric vehicles are saving Oklahomans money, improving our region’s air quality, and are more fun, efficient, and convenient to drive,” said Eric Pollard, Central Oklahoma Clean Cities Coordinator. “EV’s are already becoming the preferred vehicle of penny-pinchers, tech geeks, and environmentalists but more and more will be a better choice for a majority of Oklahoma drivers.”
